During a period in Lisbon, Porfírio studied fine art, joined the pioneering group of futurism in Portugal and led the publication of the periodical ‘Portugal Futurista’.
Later, he settled in Paris, where he became acquainted with intellectuals such as Pablo Picasso and Simone de Beauvoir.
Years later, he returned to his native country and contributed to the foundation of Faro’s Ethnographic Museum, for which he designed pictures about the customs of the people of the Algarve.
